Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party!
What is a Bead Soup Blog Party?

Each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following:

~ A focal
~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw)
~ Some coordinating spacers or beads

Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not.

Here's what I made!

Thank you for stopping by Copper Penny Designs and seeing what I made for the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party, this was my first time participating and it has been so much fun.  I received some beautiful bead soup from my partner Maryse Thillen, of Glass Bead Art.  Maryse really souped me and I had many different options that I could choose from in order to make my soup.  I love Maryse's hearts and I couldn't resist using them in this recipe.  Maryse and I had a bit of a disappointment because of me, I didn't realize that Luxembourg is it's own country, I thought it was part of Germany so I included this in the mailing details and unfortunately Maryse has not received her bead soup from me.  I plan on still getting the soup to her so that she can still make something at a later time.

When I was finishing up my design and going to put the adorable sterling silver butterfly clasp that Maryse sent me it broke so I needed to improvise with something I had, it still has butterflies on it in honor of the one that Maryse sent to me.

I am really looking forward to making my way through all of your blogs, I hope you like what you see today and find some great inspiration and new friends.  I know I will, I have made some new friends since this has all started, this is such a lovely community of people.

I want to especially thank Lori Anderson of Pretty Things for all of her tireless work on the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party, we had 210 participates and Lori had to spend an great deal of time getting us all organized and setting up emails and accommodating such a large mailing list.  You are amazing Lori, thank you for being such a giving, caring person and letting us share in your world.

For Jodi

I was asked by my dear friend to make another necklace for our friend Jodi's birthday, and again I used a charm from Martha Eason of Menagerie Studio. This necklace really had me stumped for awhile I just couldn't seem to get a flow when I was making it and each idea didn't seem to fit right.  I finally settled on this design and the lovely lady it was made for sent me a message this morning that she loved it, which made me very happy and I had a sign of relief.

Boyz II Men - It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday

Boyz II Men - It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday

I have loved this song from the first time I heard it and it is still one of my favorites.  Sometimes something just resonates with you and it will always bring back times in your life or fond memories.  I remember that I was a struggling single mom when this song came out probably looking at another lost relationship gone bad or just remembering that my youth had forever changed choosing to raise a child on my own but whatever it was I will always love this song.

Do you have a song or songs that will always hold a special place for you?

Take care,
Penny

Bead Soup Package Arrived

My partner is from Germany and I was so excited to get my package from her I was checking the mailbox often.  My partner is Maryse Thillen of Glass Bead Art, Maryse makes lovely lampwork beads and she sent be some awesome stuff to work with.  Oh the silver she sent is to die for with a cute little butterfly clasp, I am still trying to figure out how I am going to use it because I would really like to use the heart as well but both are so gorgeous I am still trying to figure out how I can showcase both of them on the front, oh decisions, decisions.

I had a surprise ingredient in my soup some lovely wool, I am just not sure what to do with it I have not used anything like it before but the color is so pretty and the wool is very soft.

I have to get this soup brewing!!!

The Outsiders

I will be revisiting my youth with my next book club meeting, we will be reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, oh how I loved this movie when I was a young girl.  I have actually never read the book so I am rather excited to read the story I usually think that the book is always better than the movie so we will see.  I remember having favorites when I was younger SodaPop for is good looks and sweet smile, that Ponyboy was so innocent and smart and that Dally was a bad boy, what girl doesn't like a bad boy there is some kind of excitement about a boy who has a wild side.  But when I think about it I think that each boy in this movie had qualities that I liked or admired.  I also love music from this decade, I still listen to it to this day, it was way before my time but I find myself singing to it and it makes me feel good.

We have a few girls in our book club who have not experienced the Outsiders I am excited to see if they will love it as much as I.  I am also looking forward to the discussion I can't wait to see what everyone took away from reading this classic.

Have you ever read The Outsiders?  Who was your favorite character and why?
